This is Ray Romano’s first big screen appearance and basically he plays the same bland but loveable character as he does on TV, which is perfect for this movie. Of course there were several scenes where I groaned and other scenes were very predictable, but this is to be expected from this type of comedy. All in all the acting was very good and the one-liners were fairly amusing. If your under 25 don’t go to this movie as you will be bored out of you mind.
Synopsis
Monroe “Eagle” Cole (Gene Hackman), plays one of the most popular U.S. presidents in history. He moves to a small town in Maine to keep out of the money hungry hands of ex-wife, Charlotte (Christine Baranski). Eagle’s plan is to do promotional speeches for corporations and to make lots of money and of course to oversee his massive new presidential library. The local yokels quickly urge him to run for mayor and he agrees partly to impress local veterinarian, Sally Mannis (Maura Tierney) and of course for his massive ego and public relations. Eagle doesn’t know that Sally has been dating Handy Harrison (Ray Romano) who is also running for Mayor.
