This is one of the best CDs that I have had the pleasure of reviewing this year. I enjoyed every song as each one had a different style and a wide variety of instruments were used. If you like Folk, blues and every variation in between then this CD will take you on a very pleasant journey from the first note to the last. MJB uses a most delightful variety of instruments, each of which he plays to perfection. There’s the Fretless gourd banjo, 12-string guitar, acoustic guitar, fiddle, and wood-bodied resonator guitar. The CD features 16 songs from a variety of artists, such as Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Sam Cooke and slide guitarist Tampa Red. This is a must have for anyone who loves to listen to the sweet sounds of string instruments. If there are still tickets left for Friday’s show at the spectrum, MJB’s talents alone are worth the price of admission. Michael Jerome Browne and Penny Lang will start off the evening with their addictive folk blues style and then renowned slide guitarist Kelly Joe Phelps will take the stage. A show not to be missed and a great CD to add to your collection.
