I had never heard of Bill Frisell before last year’s Montreal Jazz Festival. However, after hearing him perform live I quickly became an avid listener and bought a few of his CDs.Once again , listeners will surely be amazed at how flawlessly Frisell and his back-up musicians gel together. Frisell’smusic takes you on a wonderfuljourney to that special place within ourselves. This is Bill’s first recording within a septet configuration. His standard quartetfeatures Greg Leisz (pedal steel, lap steel, National steel guitar, Scheerhorn resonator guitar and mandolin), David Pitch (bass), and Kenny Wolleson (drums) are still with him but are now accompanied with a horn section comprised of saxophonist Billy Drewes, trumpeter Ron Miles and trombonist Curtis Fowlkes. With the additional players on this CD, the 18 original tracks create an amalgamation of new age like choral sounds. If you enjoy peaceful soul searching guitar leads with a blend of horns, this CD is for you.
